Pricing Explanation: Screen Printing:
Please read the following to avoid re-estimating and re-detailing your project.
Pricing is consistent, though you could see drastic changes, in your unit price; as your total quantities vary.
This takes attention.
There are lots of ways to adjust your unit price with custom work. Often clients want to know how much each unit will cost, before they know how many they want; or become frustrated, in finding consistency, or making sense of the price; when comparing to a previous order or another printer.
Screen Printing requires the same initial costs, in any print run; no matter how many units are printed.
- Initial Costs (Set-Up Cost)
- Other Costs, as quantities change, are applied. (freight, press maint. etc.) (Part of a Set-Up Cost) (We need a number when these costs are applied.)
Now: these costs, are now totaled, and will be factored into:: THE NUMBER OF UNITS TO BE PRINTED.
So: Material Cost + Factored Costs + Decoration Costs, are all totaled; for a unit price.
Do you need a proposal for quantity tiers?
If you want a price for 10 shirts, and wow it was cheaper last time, when you bought 15.. that 5 units sure did affect the price.. Do you want a lot of decoration on these shirts? Or keep it inexpensive? It takes time to detail and estimte your custom order, with requirements. We need to know what you really want? Turn-Over time, Quality, Pricing, Detailing your job for the best fit, fill a short order, pricing for bulk orders, car wash passes? yea man!! ;)
The Following is NOT a Quote, or Price Chart. The Following is only a tool to help you understand how your 'factored costs' adjust your final unit price as quantities change. *(ref our pricing in 1997) On the smallest orders we rarely see an invoice for less than $80.00, before state sales tax. With larger clients we offer price levels based on your purchasing power.
If you are looking for inexpensive printed tees: (minimal printing, light weight tee): The following is how pricing might be adjusted as different quantities are estimated. *(Considering the work order remains consistant) *(Here we have not defined shirt or ink colors)
$5.50 each: buy 100 units for $550.00
$6.15 each: buy 50 units for $307.50
$7.45 each: buy 24 units total $178.00
$10.00each: buy 12 units total $120.00
$11.00 each: buy 10 units total $110.00
$12.50 each: buy 8 units total $100.00
$20.00 each: buy 4 units total $80.00 *(consider thermal transfer or digital printing)
$35.00 each: buy 2 units total $70.00
$65.50 each: buy 1 unit total $65.00
Look at the more drastic changes in unit price as the quantites drop! After
*Note: Printing costs vary due to ink color and shirt color. The work Order can be manipulated to affect costs. White ink on black shirts requires 2 coats of ink to make it bright. Black ink on white shirts requires only one coat. Consider 200+ units, changing a work order to save $0.75 / shirt, can drastically affect your bottom line!
*Note: there are Factored Costs with screen printing: Freight for material, Screens, Setup, Supplies. The Freight is affected by total units. These costs fixed costs are divided into total units / consistent print run. This is why a minimum number of units are needed to estimate a price. On smaller orders unit pricing changes very drastically as total quantities are added or subtracted. On larger orders the factored costs are further spread and unit pricing does not change by much. (By dollars on small orders, and pennies on large orders).
*Apparel is priced in brackets by: size, weight, and colors(white, heathers, color). Light weight Small-XLarge white tees are cheep; XXXL heavy weight dyed tees are more costly. Do you want a pocket on those?
*shopping and comparing pricing among printers could easily become apples and oranges! Did you want those apples printed with organic inks?
Issues in estimating and quoting::
Imagine a customer wants to order shirts for their school club. They need to know how much per shirt before they know how many printed shirts they can get. We have to come to a starting point with a minimum number of shirts. They ask 'how much per shirt for 15-20 black t-shirts, printed: 2 colors (red and blue) on the front. These print colors on a black shirt require 2 coats each (2color4prints). We could price this as follows: 15+ units, printed: 2 colors (FC) $10.34 each. However; if white is a print color, (white, and blue) on black shirts, 15+ units, would be priced at $9.69. Both of these print runs are considering all factored costs; into 15 units. Here the difference in pricing was affected by the work order, (less printing), white was used as an under base for the blue, saving a print. (2color3prints).
The same two work orders priced at 20+ units (still with in their requested quantity range: 15-20) would be $9.17 and if white is a color $8.56! The costs are further factored into five more units! One Screen printer might estimate this job at 15 units; to be safe with costs and pricing (the customer might come back with a final count of only 10 uints and expect the quoted price to be honored. Another screen printer might estimate the same job, at 20 units; in order to quote a lower price, and win the contract. No Problem! Communicate with us and save a lot of time. Our Pricing is fair and competitive.
This Job easily has a quoted difference of $1.78 / shirt, and $35.60 on the bottom line! Depending how the job was detailed.
Once you have provided us with all the necessary information about your request, we will give you the best possible quote for your printing needs.
